The Claymaker Leads Rout of Bills

Posted September 19th, 2010 @ 09:09pm

Clay Matthews has made 14 starts in his NFL career. He has 15 sacks in those 14 games. Few careers have started as magnificently as the Pack's second year linebacker, who once again was all over the field all afternoon and led the Pack in their 34-7 win over the Bills.

Two games into the season and it looks like the Pack has the most dynamic young defensive player in the league, to go along with one of the top QBs. Matthews has six sacks, a boatload of tackles and countless plays where his mere presence has caused the offense to freak out.

Offensively, Rodgers was much sharper, despite facing a secondary that held Brees, Schaub and Brady to a combined 1 TD pass last season. He and Finley hooked up for over 100 yards. We got a glimpse of what #88 has in store for us this year--he is special. Not exactly enamored with the running game. John Kuhn outgained Brandon Jackson in what was a two-headed attack. Interestingly, the Bills fed Marshawn Lynch all day, after giving him just three carries in the opener. Perhaps they were auditioning him for a future trade.

Beating the Bills 34-7 doesn't prove much. They already have the inside track on the #1 pick in next year's draft and the right to draft QB Jake Locker. The Pack was expected to roll over the Bills and they did just that.

We'll get a real feel for where this team is when they head to Soldier Field to play the surprising 2-0 Bears, who shocked the Cowboys after escaping at home against the Lions last week.  The Bears game is on Monday Night Football and the fans will have all day to get in the right frame of mind. Should make for a crazy scene on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Hmmm, the Packers and Bears are 2-0 and the Vikings are 0-2. Early on, it looks like the NFL's oldest rivalry will be fighting it out for supremacy in the NFC North.

It will be Vikings and Packers duking it out. Nothing special about the Packers wins. They beat two teams that will combine for 6 wins (5 for Philly and 1 for Buffalo). Vikings played two teams that will combine for 20 wins. (Saints 12 and Phins 8.) Looks like Bear-luck could be in full-force this season, but they still have some big issues.

I am worried about the Packers' run defense. We miss Johnny Jolly more than anyone thoght we would.
