Packers XLV

Here's My Second Round Wish List

Posted April 29th, 2011 @ 06:04pm

With the offensive line fortified, the Pack will look elsewhere at #64. As stated before, Thompson is likely to go with the highest rated guy on his board, regardless of position. But I have to believe he'd love to find either an impact skill position player or front seven defender.

Based on what is expected to be available to the Pack at the bottom of round two, here are my top four choices in order. If a stud defender falls into our lap, he trumps all of these guys.

1. Ryan Williams, RB, Virginia Tech: I've seen two mock drafts today that have the Pack grabbing the multi-dimensional former Hokie. A hamstring injury last year and slow 40 time this spring has him dropping a bit, but I think he would be an electrifying jolt to the running game and give the Pack its best all purpose back since Ahman Green.

2. Randall Cobb, WR, Kentucky: My seven round mock has the Pack taking Cobb, but I'm not sure he'll make it to #64. He's the SEC's all time leader in all purpose yardage. So he's the whole package. He gives you a return guy and a tough guy who can play inside and was one of the best YAC guys in college football. With Driver nearing the end, Jones on his way out and Swain a weak #5, Cobb  provides needed depth for the Pack's WR corps.

3. Allen Bailey, DE, Miami: I was hoping Cam Heyward would be the Pack's #1 pick, but Bailey would be a nice consolation prize at a position that looks vulnerable with Cullen Jenkins expected to move on via free agency. Bailey is a guy who coaches drool over when they look at him, but he was inconsistent and didn't always play with effort. But when he was on, the converted linebacker was a beast. The Pack may decide he's another big body they cannot pass on. That said, he'll likely be gone by 64.

4. Greg Little, WR, North Carolina: One of those suspended Tar Heels, Little is a guy you may need to wait on and the Pack can afford waiting. He's a converted running back that made a seamless transition to WR and could have more upside than any WR still on the board. He's 6'2" and 214, and as a former runner he's tough enough to break tackles and fits the kind of guy Thompson likes.

Tweet me the guy you hope they get and I'll post all the names at the bottom of this blog.

Love Cobb!! (Tho he is downright little) I believe he has great all purpose skills. Percy Harvin w/o migraines. SO GLAD we got O-line help w Sherrod! It is a beauty thing to be a Packer fan these days! :D PS., How 'bout those Viking picks?! :D haha Sorry MN fans, but I tink Leslie Frazier is so overrated just cuz he is a "nice guy". People think of him as a Tony Dungy type, I just don't see it.

I told you guys about Cobb and had him picked in my first Packer mock draft back in Feb.....also picked Sherrod so picked top two. Just missed on my third pick Mason Foster the Washington LB went a few picks before Pack in third round. Cobb will be terrific and Alex Green a good third down back and possible kick returner. Day 2 TT will go after almost all defense. GO PACK GO !!
