Exclusive: McCarthy's Post Game Rant on Sunday

Posted November 12th, 2013 @ 09:11pm

We all saw how hot Mike McCarthy was following the Eagles game. We were all glad to see it. The last two performances demand that somebody get in everybody's grills. has exclusively acquired the lockerroom "conversation" McCarthy had with the team in the moments after the Eagles game:

MM: All right is everybody in here?

MM: I said, is everybody in here? Hey Dom, look around, is your starting defense in here? Or are they still out there trying to stop the #$% Eagles on that last drive. I mean, honest to G-d, that drive was longer than the Seneca Wallace era!

Capers: Actually, Mike, MD Jennings is really starting to come on. If we give him a few more chances, I think you'll like what you see.

MM: (shakes his head and rubs his temples) Team, that was embarrassing. Where do I start? Well as long as you're listening Dom, what happened to tackling? What happened to a pass rush? I mean you've got almost all your horses. Granted, Matthews looked like he was the bad guy in The Fugitive out there. I appreciate the effort Clay, but you were about as effective as one of those Fatheads you're always pitching. The offense has some excuses, but that defense was ridiculous. Dom your secondary left Riley Cooper wide open. I seriously hope it wasn't something he said.

(some players chuckle)

MM: There's nothing to smile about today boys. OK, Scott Tolzien. You made me smile. That was a hell of an effort out there. You actually made some Packer fans forget about Randy Wright. You all can look him up on Wikipedia. Outside of that pick in the end zone you kept the offense in it. You've earned another start. I'm not gonna pick on the offense today. We were up against it and almost pulled it out. We all know Jordy made that touchdown catch. Who knows, cutting the lead to seven may have even inspired Dom's guys to tackle a little bit.

Nah, probably not.

Crosby. We call them special teams. Missing two field goals at home is anything but special. It's bad enough I'm down to a QB who'd never played before. Make your d#$% kicks.

I turned 50 today, boys. That was one hell of a birthday present. All I wished for when I blew out my candles was a couple of picks. Remember those? It's when you catch the other team's pass while you're on defense. We've averaged 26 a year the last four years. This year we have three. With an offense lacking #12, #18, #88 and a couple of linemen, we coulda used a little help.

All right that's it. We got the Giants next. The last time we played them.....(faints).

Hopefully for next week, the defense will figure out that this isn't flag football like we played in gym class as kids. TACKLE THE GUY WITH THE BALL FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD!!!!!! (That shouldn't be too much to ask, you think?) Also, everyone is getting down on Crosby again. I'm willing to give him a pass on missing the long one, but the shorter one, yeah, he should have made it - I'm not going to worry too much. Tolzien should do better with a week's worth of prep (yeah, I know we heard that one a week ago...), and everyone and their brother is saying the Packers have signed Flynn, but I've yet to see it on, so based on that, I don't think he's signed yet officially. Last I heard they were going to give Skelton a try - hey, what do we have to lose at this point, right? I've said this before, and I'll say it again, that our expectations for Flynn shouldn't be all that high, especially when everyone is basing this on a meaningless game 2 years ago, and I'll keep hammering this point as well...3 teams have given up on him just this season. I think that speaks volumes. If indeed they sign him, it's a thumbs down from me until he shows us all something. Just keepin' it real...

Seneca Wallace should be put in jail for stealing money fron the Packers. What an embarrassment.

OK, now it's official - Flynn is signed and Wallace is on IR.

Larry, I hope you realize we all think the world of you, and I'm not just giving you a line by stating that. You're absolutely right that we are all entitled to our opinions, and lord knows I've put a few of them out there, and if someone agrees, that's cool; if they don't, that's cool too. Occasionally someone will tell me I'm full of BS, and I'm to the point in my life that if someone tells me that, there's a good chance they're full of it too, and I don't lose any sleep over it. Be that as it may, from the statement you refer to by THC, I can tell back when he was in school he took Sarcasm 101 like I did, and passed with flying colors. So what it boils down to, for me at any rate, is for anyone who wants to offend me, they really have to work at it because it's next to impossible. So Larry, whatever you do, don't change your ways - you're one of the reasons this site is as good as it is. Most everyone here, myself included, agrees with you more than they disagree, and I agree with you on the point that it'll be low scoring against the Giants. As lousy as they started the year off, now they are only one game behind the Jerry-boys; that's just an example of how things can change in the blink of an eye in this league. You can make the same case for Pittsburgh. And did anyone envision Houston and Atlanta tanking it the way they have? Probably not. But if either one of them rattle off 2 or 3 wins, everything will change. Ain't this fun? :-)

thanks Voice, that means alot

Anytime, my friend!

Oh, and one more thing...PLEASE...don't make the suggestion that the Packers pick up Ed Reed, not even for the league minimum. I don't think I need to explain why.

I feel the offense with Tolzien at QB will put up enough points to win. We drove the ball last week but just didn't turn several of the drives into points. The Gmen's defense is top 15 in yards per game but are 26th in points allowed. The Giants have only scored more than 24 points in 1 game this year and that was opening day against the Cowgirls. So all our defense needs to do is be as good as Philly D, Oakland D and Vikings D: keep the Giants at 24 points or under and I believe we win this game. GO PACK! Oh, and now that we got flexed out of the Sunday night game (rightfully so; KC vs Dvr a much better national game), looks like we will need to go to the bar on Sunday since Pack and Queens both play at 315pm. Park Tavern gonna be rocking?

come on now Davey, don't get pissy now. I am just stating the facts, just like u do. when I'm wrong I tell everyone also don't I? We all know your THC. but I hope we can make our opinions here, and if I'm right not be ridiculed for it. I sure have gave comps to u on this blog many times or did u forget that. I was letting Voice know I had said the same thing and we agree. not sure what your posts was supposed to mean. back to the pack, if they can stop brown from running sunday, i feel we have a great shot, but the giants have had our # lately, should be low scoring game, I see it 20-16, giants, I hope I'm wrong, then Davey will be happy twice.. GO PACK

Bill the Voice of the Short Bus--regarding Ed Reed not having anything left in the tank at safety--you said the same thing about Charles Woodson last offseason and he's actually had a solid first 9 games of the season for Oakland. Stop failing.

I think it's the voice in my head I use when I read your comments that bugs me most. That's probably on me. But the 'boasting about your takes' thing gets under my skin a bit from time to time. I appreciate what you bring to the blog...keep 'em coming. I'll try to come up with a different voice. :)

I'd like to see Dom Capers get on "Packers Live With Larry McCarren" this week and let Larry really grill him about the Packers' defense. I hear these vague references to "recurring issues" from McCarthy but no explanation of exactly what that means. Is it the coaching or the players or at various times both? Get the game film out, show us on the Telestrator exactly what went wrong and why. Name names, specify what's wrong. That would be a show worth watching.

Well as far as any deeper analysis goes, last I heard out of Oakland is Charles isn't exactly setting the world on fire, and it'll be interesting how Reed does for NYJ. Considering how sorry the Vikings DB's have played thus far, and how much he has left, I wonder why Spielman didn't call him up? Hmmmmm......

packerlifer, do u mean larry m. or me asking the tough ?'s. just kidding. great idea. I don't want Davey to hear that wrong voice again. thanks for addressing what u meant HC, u know I respect your thoughts and listen to u all the time on Kfan, but as I said, I give u a lot of compliments and others too, not just when i am right. all my friends who know me and read this, Denny, Mark, Harry know that is who I am,, make predictions and let's see if I'm right. I have fun with it. beat those giants.

For you history buffs ( non sports history ) it was Edmund Burke who said.." The only thing neccesary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" This probably applies to more important things in life than the playground of the sports world but Larry I back what Voice said....we respect and sometimes agree or admire your opinion. All of us diehard regulars on this site are true mostly long time Packer fans. Keep giving your opinion....maybe someday we can all meet over beers.....we would have to find some watering hole that serves Voices Holy Cow New Glarus type. This site is "FUN" keep up your takes. GO PACK GO !!

THC--I'm not boasting about my takes (other than maybe the Crosby one), I'm simply savaging the bad takes of other people here (like you and the short bus rider). Bill TVOSB--Woodson hasn't missed a start all year (durability was his biggest concern, so that's huge) and has 52 tackles thus far. His int #'s will never rival his Packer days given that he is a full-time/pure safety now.
